Fresh off our 40th anniversary, Chamber Singers of Iowa City is ready to blaze new paths as we continue to present quality classical choral music in eastern Iowa. The new season sports a “first” for our organization: the production of a commercial recording. The recording will draw on the vast treasury of Christmas choral music down through the centuries, in the form of traditional carols and original choral compositions. Slated for release in December, On Christmas Day will make an ideal gift for family and friends this holiday season.

In the same month, we will hold our first-ever Lesson & Carols service, where we will perform excerpts from the Christmas recording live. The service, modeled after the famous service at King’s College in England, may well become an annual Iowa City tradition.

Our February concert will focus on the power of song itself. The entire program will consist of pieces that mention the art of singing.

And our final concert of the season brings to the stage the legendary feud between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his rival Antonio Salieri, a struggle made famous by the play and movie Amadeus. Although Salieri did not actually kill Mozart, as popular culture would lead us to believe, the two were professional rivals. Our season ends in grand fashion with Salieri’s Coronation Te Deum and Mozart’s immortal Requiem.
