February 28
Musica Britannica
First Presbyterian Church, 3:00 pm
Join with Chamber Singers of Iowa City, with music direction by David Puderbaugh, for a winter concert of venerable musical selections from Great Britain.
Featuring Thomas Tallis’s immortal Renaissance masterpiece, his first setting of Lamentations of Jeremiah, the concert will span British choral works from the Renaissance to the present. From the thrilling finale of Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus to intimate settings of English texts by Vaughan Williams and Skempton, this performance will acquaint listeners with the finest music of the storied British musical tradition.
In addition to these choral masterpieces, Gregory Hand, Assistant Professor of Organ at The University of Iowa, will perform excerpts from the organ sonatas of Edward Elgar and Percy Whitlock.
