May 20
Antonio and Amadeus
Sunday, May 20, 2012, 3:00 p.m.
Clear Creek Amana Performing Arts Center, 551 W Marengo Rd, Tiffin, IA
Chamber Singers leaves the friendly confines of Iowa City for Tiffin and the newly opened Clear Creek Amana Performing Arts Center to stage a “rematch” of two legendary rivals in music history. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was the young, brilliant, and impetuous composer, trying to carve out a living on his own during a time when royal or noble patronage of artists was the norm. Antonio Salieri was the established composer; a beneficiary of the emperor’s sponsorship. While the relationship between the two was probably nowhere near as acrimonious as legend would have us believe, the two were bound to compete for the favor of both the imperial court and Viennese audiences. We close the season with Salieri’s brilliant Coronation Te Deum and Mozart’s last and most famous work; his immortal Requiem. Don’t miss this special choral/orchestral presentation!
Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for seniors, $5 for students and youth. See Tickets for ordering information and season discounts.
