Chamber Singers caroling behind a lit garland at a local business
Scheels, Coralville, December 2025

For a few weeks each holiday season, small groups of Chamber Singers of Iowa City fan out across the area to sing holiday carols. We've sung in restaurants and hotel lobbies, at retirement communities and holiday parties, on downtown corners and in shopping centers.

Four singers or twelve, in full harmony, singing the carols everyone already knows. It changes a room. People slow down, and the afternoon feels more festive than it did an hour prior. We can be the centerpiece of your event or simply sing in the corner while people mingle, whatever suits the space.

Our carolers head out on a handful of dates between Thanksgiving and mid-December, mostly weekends but some weekdays too, working around the choir's own concert calendar. We book caroling dates in early fall and fill them quickly, so reach out to us by September 1.

Caroling FAQ

How many singers will come?

Four to twelve singers, sized to fit your space and our availability.

What do you sing?

Traditional holiday carols and winter songs, the familiar favorites audiences know.

Do you sing outdoors?

We usually sing indoors, but we're glad to sing outdoors when the location or event calls for it, and some visits are entirely outside. For venues that prefer outdoors, we ask that you have a backup indoor spot in case of extreme cold or wet weather.

How long is a visit?

About thirty minutes.

What do we need to have ready?

Very little. No risers, sound equipment, or stage, just space for the group to stand. We may put up a small sign identifying the group. Once your visit is scheduled, we may ask about parking, accessibility, and, for indoor visits, a secure place to leave our coats.

Can we take photos and post about it?

Absolutely, and please tag us. We also post where and when we'll be caroling, unless it's a private event, and we're happy to tag your business too.

Is there a fee?

There's no charge. Our singers do this because they love performing and connecting with the community.

Can we make a donation?

Many businesses do, often $100 or more. Donations support the chorus's concerts and community programs and can be made online at icchambersingers.org or by check to P.O. Box 2803, Iowa City, IA 52244.

How do we request a visit?

Email or call our caroling coordinator by September 1 and tell us a little about your location and the dates that would work for you. We build the schedule in the fall and will be in touch either way.

A note on weather

Iowa weather can be unpredictable. Many of our singers come from out of town. If unsafe driving conditions exist, we will let you know as early as we can if we need to cancel.
